Java Wally's Kiosk is inspired by the coffee shop named Java Wally's situated on the campus of the Rochester Institute of Technology. The objective behind this design is to develop a kiosk tailored for a business. Java Wally's was chosen as the inspiration due to its status as the favorite coffee shop on campus.
The project encompassed thorough research on interactivity, experimentation with existing kiosk design systems, heuristic evaluations of current kiosk designs, establishment of product requirements for a kiosk, creation of workflows, wireframes, style guides, and the development of final compositions.
Prompt: Kiosk Design
Duration: 15 weeks
Software: Figma
Skills: UX/UI
Process Doc: 105 pages | 31.8 MB
1. The Purpose
Research and develop a comprehensive design of a kiosk for a company. Exploring heuristic evaluations, product requirements for kiosks, workflow diagrams, wireframes, style guides, design comps and prototypes.
2. The Problem
Kiosk sizes aren’t consistent. They have a lot of vertical scrolling. The icons on the kiosks tend to be very close together and hard to differentiate.

3. The Opportunity
Design a user-friendly kiosk that ensures ease of use and understanding, minimizes user interaction time, and provides adequate spacing for each element. The dimensions should be large enough for comfortable user access while avoiding the need for users to bend down to view the screen.
4. The Goal
Develop a kiosk with a unified and consistent typography, spacing, and branding, ensuring ease of interaction for users of all backgrounds and abilities.
Heuristic Evaluation
I conducted a heuristic evaluation on Taco Bell's kiosk system, comparing the existing system with a potential alternative. The evaluation covered various aspects, including Visibility of System Status, Match between Systems, User Control Freedom, User Consistency and Standards, Error Prevention, Recognition Rather than Recall, Flexibility and Efficiency of Use, and Aesthetic and Minimalist Design.
Final Compostions
These represent the final compositions for my Java Wally's Kiosk design, illustrating the diverse screens users will navigate while utilizing the kiosk. Starting from the left, the screens include the welcome page, punch card, main menu, category page, customization, cart, payment type, receipt type, phone number entry, email entry, and confirmation page.
Reflection
This project has been a journey that deepened my understanding of the meticulous research required in design. While my final designs may not fully meet my satisfaction, I am pleased with the wealth of knowledge gained through user research. I anticipate updating and enhancing this project very soon!
